Interns in 39000 W Seven Mile Road, Livonia, MI - Suite 3600

Ana Prior, Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern

Hi! My name is Ana Prior, and I am a Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern dedicated to creating a supportive, nonjudgmental, compassionate environment where clients can feel safe to be themselves. I believe that counseling is a collaborative process built on authenticity, trust, and understanding. My goal is to help clients feel empowered, heard, and supported as they navigate life’s challenges and work toward meaningful growth and healing.

As a clinical intern, my counseling approach is rooted in person-centered therapy and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). I strive to meet each client where they are while helping them better understand the connections between their thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I value creating a space where clients can openly explore their experiences, build greater self-awareness, and confidence.

I enjoy working with clients across the lifespan, with a particular passion for supporting children, teens, and young adults. My areas of interest include anxiety, stress management, life transitions, relationship challenges, and supporting adoptees in exploring identity, belonging, and adoption related grief.

I am currently pursuing my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling at Wayne State University, with an expected graduation in December 2026. I earned my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and Business from Western Michigan University.

Office Location: Ana offers in-person appointments in our Taylor office and telehealth appointments.

Maya Allen, Clinical Mental Health Counseling Intern

Counseling Philosophy

What a wonderful step you are taking to explore yourself through mental healing! I’m Maya, and I am an intern here at Tree of Life Counseling Services. I am working towards completing my masters degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling & Art Therapy at Wayne State University, and I am expecting to graduate spring/summer 2026. My passion is driven by the idea that each individual is entirely unique, creative, capable of personal growth towards personal goals at their own pace.

Counseling Orientation

My theoretical orientation is focused on a holistic person-centered approach first. I strive to give individuals the freedom to express themselves however they see fit each session. I strive to individualize care through a wide variety of therapeutic approaches to specific areas of need and personal goals of my clients, as all individuals are wonderfully unique. I also offer art therapy as a modality of healing in my practice.

Art Therapy

Creative expression as it is used in art therapy offers the opportunity to explore and express their own inner world in the form of creativity. Artwork can be a tool for individuals to better understand personal experiences that cannot always be put into words. Engaging in art therapy can be a rewarding experience no matter an individual’s creative skills, as there is always a chance to find purpose in artmaking.

Areas of Interest and Experience

Although I am happy to work with all walks of life at any age, I find interest in working with teens and young adults. I have experience facilitating a teen art therapy group as well as young adults individually. I work with individuals living with anxiety and depression, as well as navigating daily life and family/relationship dynamics. I also have experience in working with individuals with Type 1 Diabetes.

Office Location: Maya offers in-person appointments in our Taylor office and telehealth appointments.

Christopher Johnson, MA, LLC

Hi, I’m Christopher Johnson (Chris), and I believe therapy should be a place where you feel comfortable, supported, and truly understood. There are times when life can be overwhelming and it is not always easy to ask for help. My goal is to help create an environment where clients feel safe being open, processing difficult experiences, and working towards meaningful change at their own pace.

I enjoy working with adolescents, young adults, and adults who may be struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, emotional regulation, relationship challenges, substance use concerns, or major life transitions. If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, misunderstood, or simply want to gain a better understanding of yourself, my goal is to help you develop healthier coping skills and greater confidence to deal with life’s challenges.

My style of therapy is collaborative, kind, and personalized to the individual needs of each person. I primarily use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) along with mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and communication skills to help clients create lasting and realistic change in their day-to-day lives.

I think growth happens when people feel heard, valued, and empowered.

Therapy is not about being perfect; it is about learning, healing, and becoming the best you can be. I look forward to helping you on your journey.

Lucynda Matchett, MA, LLC

Counseling Philosophy & Orientation:
Life can feel overwhelming at times, particularly when navigating major life transitions, relationships, or the daily pressures that come with balancing multiple roles. My goal as a counselor is to provide a supportive, nonjudgmental space where clients feel safe to explore their thoughts, emotions, and experiences. I believe that healing and growth begin with feeling heard, understood, and respected.

My counseling approach is collaborative and grounded in compassion, authenticity, and curiosity. I integrate evidence-based approaches including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Person-Centered Therapy. Through these approaches, I work alongside clients to identify unhelpful patterns in thoughts and behaviors, strengthen coping skills, and develop greater self-awareness. Together, we focus on building practical tools while also exploring values and personal goals that support meaningful and lasting change.

I strongly believe that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process. Each individual brings a unique set of experiences, strengths, and challenges. Because of this, I tailor sessions to meet each client’s needs, creating an environment that is collaborative, empowering, and focused on growth.

Areas of Specialty:
I have a strong interest in working with individuals experiencing Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), as well as those navigating anxiety, life transitions, relationship challenges, and stress. I work with adolescents and adults who may be struggling with emotional regulation, executive functioning, identity development, or social and relational concerns. My goal is to help clients better understand themselves, build practical coping strategies, and develop confidence in navigating their daily lives.
Qualifications:

I earned my Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Southern New Hampshire University in 2025. I also hold a Bachelor’s degree in Paralegal Studies and Criminal Justice. In addition to my counseling training, I have experience working with children as a Direct Line Therapist in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), where I supported children with developmental and behavioral needs while helping them build communication, social, and daily living skills. This experience has strengthened my understanding of neurodevelopment, behavior, and the importance of individualized support. I am currently pursuing a PhD in Counseling Education and Supervision, with the goal of contributing to counselor training, mentorship, and the advancement of the counseling profession.

Stephanie Roffi, MA, LPC

Counseling Philosophy:

Everyone we encounter is a product of the intersections in their lives. We as humans are extremely complex so it is difficult to reduce an individual to simply one label. If humans are that complex, that also means our journey toward growth and healing can be just as complex. Facing our growing edges day to day can feel overwhelming, sometimes it helps to have someone there to bounce ideas off of, emphasize our strengths, and uncover our blind spots along the way. My goal first and foremost is to provide a safe, welcoming, authentic environment for you to explore all of these things without fear of judgment.

Counseling Orientation:

My approach to counseling consists of an integrative lens that emphasizes intersectionality, authenticity, self-actualization, and ultimately congruency. I gravitate toward a number of theoretical frameworks including, but not limited to humanistic, psychodynamic, existential, somatic, and queer feminist perspectives. At the end of the day, the counseling process is a collaborative journey to achieve the agreed-upon therapy milestones. The therapy you receive is always personalized based on your individual goals and needs.

Areas of Specialties:

I work with a wide array of clients where we can openly explore challenges related to anxiety, depression, emotional dysregulation, ADHD, trauma, grief, issues related to traumatic brain injury, stress management, addiction, identity exploration, LGBTQIA+, family dynamics, and overall life transitions. I work well with all ages and demographics.

Qualifications:

I am currently a Limited Licensed Counselor who practices under the supervision of a Licensed Professional Counselor. I graduated in the summer of 2022 with my master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Oakland University. In conjunction with counseling, I have a wealth of experience working in Neurotherapy for six years, including neurofeedback, neuromodulation, and biofeedback. My background also consists of work within the non-profit and music sectors. I am currently a standing member of the American Counseling Association (ACA).

Cassandra Isley, MA, LLC

Counseling Philosophy

Difficult and trying times confront us all, as all of us are heavily impacted by our various environments, personal histories, biological traits, and cultural expectations. It is no wonder that we can be overwhelmed by the difficulties life presents. Nevertheless, although life can be difficult, learning new coping strategies can help us become better at handling the hard stuff, helping us discover ways of personal wellness and growth despite the difficulties.

Counseling Orientation

I personally have benefited greatly from counseling. My past experiences inspired my passion to develop the skills to help others as I was once helped. Empathy is the primary pillar of the counseling profession. Thus, I believe creating a non-judgmental and confidential space, where complex emotions and fears are discussed and normalized, is the recipe for counseling success. I use a vast variety of techniques and theories to encourage clients to build self-awareness and self-advocacy. Each client is unique, therefore each counseling experience is unique. There is no singular theory or technique that works for everyone.

Qualifications

I am a Limited License Counselor (LLC). Subsequent to my Bachelors Degree in Psychology from the University of Michigan in 2009, I completed my Masters Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and School Counseling with a specialization in substance abuse from Wayne State University in 2015. Along with my experience with adolescents, I also have worked with adults facing various issues, from anxiety and depression to grief and relationship issues.
